Let’s Talk Soap
When you’re looking for soaps, be mindful of a few things.
What types of oils are in your soap?
I pulled up the ingredient list of a common soap, found in any grocery. This soap contains- Sodium Lauryl Isethionate, Stearic Acid, Lauric Acid, Sodium Oleate, Water, Sodium Isethionate, Sodium Stearate, Cocamidopropyl Betaine, Fragrance (Parfum), Sodium Laurate, Tetrasodium Etidronate, Tetrasodium EDTA, Sodium Chloride, Kaolin or Titanium Dioxide.
Where is the oil?
Stearic Acid and Lauric Acid are the oils in this soap. But what is the other stuff? Sodium Isethionate and Sodium Stearate are essentially detergents.
What?!
Detergents are surfactants. Surfactants bring the oil from your skin to the surface, then wash it all away. Which makes you feel “squeaky clean”. I’m not going into the other ingredients; this is already too much.
Let’s be real. The soap your grandmothers used was real. I encourage you to go back to what’s real.
Look for soaps made from items you probably already have in your house. My soaps are made from a combination of 2 of the following oils;
Coconut oil, Oilve oil, Sesame seed oil and Laurel Berry Oil
Most of them are made with goats’ milk for extra creaminess and essential oils for added olfactory delight.
Today I am introducing Like a Rose Soap. Made from coconut and olive oils, goats’ milk along with Neroli and Rose essential oils. Its delightful aroma puts you in the mood for Valentine’s Day. I will keep it available while supplies last.
